KeyForge

My First KeyForge Chainbound Night

I finally dragged myself to a FLGS to indulge in a KeyForge Chainbound event, having been playing socially at work and online via The Crucible for a while. And… I really enjoyed it!

I went to ‘A Fistful of Dice’ in Southsea who typically run their Chainbound events on Friday evenings. Unfortunately, my most local store aren’t running any such events now, but ‘Fistful’ are local to one of my offices. It’s also a trip down memory lane as I used to go to the cinema and music shops in the area ‘back in the day’ !

I was told that numbers attending could vary but on the night we had a decent six players wanting to take part. This works using Swiss Rounds : Each player would get 3 games, with winners playing winners, and losers playing losers, in order to work out the results and give everyone a good experience.

I took along the following deck, as it is one of my favourites and I have been playing it a reasonable amount socially:

Preezfeth, the “Dominus” of Vipers

Brobnar

Dis

Shadows
001 Anger 055 Control the Weak 270 Ghostly Hand
007 Coward’s End 062 Hand of Dis 271 Hidden Stash

008 Follow the Leader 064 Tendrils of Pain 280 Poison Wave
010 Loot the Bodies 075 Lash of Broken Dreams 281 Relentless Whispers
012 Punch 083 Dust Imp 284 Treasure Map
022 Gauntlet of Command 087 Overlord Greking 284 Treasure Map

What do I like about this deck? It’s very fast at racking up the aember, plus some decent aember control and board wipe capability. Oh, and two Treasure Maps really help.

Now, I would have been happy with just one win, considering this was my first real competitive event. I was therefore pretty ecstatic to end up 3-0 on the night. The card draw was kind to me! Two of the games were very close though, and I always felt I was just one opponent’s play away from defeat, no matter what the situation.

The 2nd game was interesting as I was against a Horseman deck. My opponent mentioned that he needed me to be playing creatures to gain a competitive advantage, so I did my best to not play any!

I picked up some token cards (shame that the metal keys were not available; next time!)

CARDS!

And, for the sake of posterity:

VICTORY!

I really enjoyed the experience. KeyForge is a great social game to play, and the games are quick and ‘swingy’ in an exciting way. I learn so much from every single game that I play!

Here’s to the next one! For now, perhaps I need to try and find some more local players…

(I discussed some of my thoughts on this in my chat with keyforgejupiter)
